1. Teaching Philosophy
We offer a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum which is interest-based, child-led learning here at WOLO. Some private schools such as Urban Academy, Stratford Hall, and York House to name a few, also offer the same type of curriculum for good reason. The theory is that when children are learning something that they are interested in, they can learn well beyond their capacity. Or at least, what we think their capacity is. 2. Early Education We are an education centre in Vancouver that offers preparatory programs for preschool, kindergarten or private school. We value learning at a young age and believe that children learn more quickly during this time than at any other time in life. Research has shown the emotional, social and physical development of young children has a direct effect on the overall development and what kind of adult they will become. We believe that investing in early learning is so important to maximize their future well-being. 3. Flexibility At WOLO, we offer a flexible model of care for families. Some join us for the entire school year with the option of taking vacation breaks without having to pay for a spot they are not attending. For example, the conventional group child care or preschool system requires you to pay for your spot for the entire school year regardless of how many days you are away sick or on vacation. We on the other hand, offer flexibility for families so they are only paying for the days they attend. This model works well for travelling families, shift workers, the self-employed, families with nanny share, etc. 4. School of Arts Our School of Arts offers piano lessons, various musical instrument lessons which includes the ukulele, guitar, harp, and group music lessons such as piano, band and choir. We follow the Happy Keys program which is also a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum. Students lead the direction of the curriculum while the teachers facilitate to their interests and needs. 5. Teachers ALL our teachers are either ECE or B.ED certified teachers who are trained in the Emergent curriculum. We have a background in early childhood education, kindergarten, and elementary school as well as psychology. 6. Space Our centre has been designed by renowned child care designer Ye Chu who has designed over 20 licensed childcare centres in the lower mainland. Our grand 32 feet high ceilings offer natural light and a feeling of openness. The natural grain cabinetry and flooring resembles the natural resources of Vancouver.
